The Return of Maccoy
The prodigal son returns! After a lengthy absence, Maccoy finally rejoins Kelli on the podcast, and the chemistry is immediate. "I'm not saying my ratings depend on him," Kelli jokes, "but let's be honest. This is either about to skyrocket or crash and burn spectacularly."
What follows is a whirlwind catch-up of summer adventures, unexpected encounters, and the kind of conversations that only happen when these two get together. Maccoy shares the saga of his Amazon e-bike's untimely demise (and resurrection), while Kelli recounts their successful garage sale weekend that netted her over $600 – though Maccoy only managed to earn a meager $44 from his contributions. The stories take a delightful detour when their recording is interrupted by news that their escape-artist bunny Dixie (aptly nicknamed "the prison breaker" and "Damnit Dixie") has been captured by a neighbor and returned home.
Their summer escapades continue with tales from the Anoka knife and gun show, where Maccoy volunteered to get zapped by a stun gun demonstration, and their visit to the Safari Zoo in Brainerd where they fed giraffes and Kelli fell in love with alpacas again. Meanwhile, Kelli shares her latest psychological thriller recommendations from authors Lucinda Berry and Minka Kent, though Maccoy quickly clarifies he's "not a reader." The episode wraps with a hilarious debate over whether it's better to give up showering or internet for a month, with Maccoy's solution being to simply "Febreze himself" rather than bathe.
Join us for this reunion episode filled with laughter, unpredictable tangents, and the undeniable chemistry that makes this podcast impossible to predict but always entertaining. Welcome back to On Our Best Behavior. Today's a big day. My OG, co-host, my partner in crime, the Projicle podcaster himself, mccoy, is back. He's finally run out of excuses and snacks. I'm not saying my ratings depend on him, but let's be honest. This is either about to skyrocket or crash and burn spectacularly and, just like last time, I have no idea what's about to come out of his mouth. So buckle up, friends, let's do this. Hey, mac.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's about a crash and burn.
Speaker 1:Well, literally, we just scheduled your driver's test. So please please don't crash and burn. I got a screw on my mic. It's been a minute. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. I think I'm going the wrong way, All right what's new McCoy. Now I see why this was all funky. It's been a minute. Mom, I'm struggling, I'm struggling, come on. I'm struggling, so let's talk about what we've been up to what have you been up to? No one knows, no one's other than me. No one's heard from you.
Speaker 2:I guess, where have you? Been where have I been? Yeah, at home where have you been? Well, I don't know. I don't think I ever explained this story because I don't think it happened a long ago. My bike, bike. We'll go with that.
Speaker 1:Okay, you want to start with your bike Bike problems, bike issues. I have an e-bike.
Speaker 2:If you didn't know.
Speaker 1:I don't think anyone really knows that I think so because I talked about driving it to work a few times.
Speaker 2:Oh really Okay. So maybe Wait, let me fix my mic real quick.
Speaker 1:So you've been actually pretty active on your e-bike Wait.
Speaker 2:And then there was an unfortunate event. Basically oh my God, I can't freaking you were making fun of me and now you're on the struggle bus over there.
Speaker 1:It's too low, okay. So anyways, do you know how to make it higher?
Speaker 2:It's that one I just wanted to look up, okay, because it's like this Okay, you because, hey, that's like this, okay, it's like you're so cute. Thank you, you're welcome so anyways, uh, the tire popped on it like in a really bad spot. I like barely popped it, so it barely popped it, but it's pretty fucked up. Yeah, it was like in a spot where I probably couldn't put a patch on it it would definitely couldn't work.
Speaker 2:No, because it was like the rim. Yeah, it was like basically on there, it was like it got up in it, like stabbed up in the rim up in here, up in here, and then it has terrible brakes. The back brakes are like nothing, almost. My front brakes I literally just use those all the time. So we brung it in today. Yo well, yesterday we tried to.
Speaker 1:You know like oh, we can't do this bike brought it to eric's and of course, we bought this e-bike on Amazon, because why wouldn't you? I mean, that's where we buy everything.
Speaker 2:Unless you go to like an actual store to buy it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, but those e-bikes are two grand plus.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I don't have that to pull my ass, no, so we were just, and you know, with you, mac.
Speaker 1:no offense, but I'm poor no. You think you want a skateboard, and then you don't.
Speaker 2:And then you think you want a BMX bike. That's the only thing I actually.
Speaker 1:Well, so that's what I'm saying. I don't like to dump a ton of money into something until we know that you really like it. That's fair.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so anyway.
Speaker 1:so we bought a $500 e-bike and it's been great. It works fine.
Speaker 2:Yeah, the only thing that sucks, but I don't know, princess I'm not saying princess needs a big squishy booty chair. Booty booty, booty, booty, booty, booty booty I don't think it's that bad, but everyone else complains about it who's riding your bike? Logan, when he has and you're like this is so terrible, it hurts my ass.
Speaker 1:It's like, yeah, I know, but I don't really care so and you're upgrading from e-biking to so anyway, we brought your bike yesterday to eric's. They won't touch it because it's from amazon yeah but they did send us to a place today that we brought it car something cars bike shop, yeah and um, you know they said it won't be done today. But then they call, they text you and said it is done, yeah, so you're really excited to go get it.
Speaker 1:But I said you have to do a podcast with me first. You know they said it won't be done today, but then they call, they text you and said it is done. So you're really excited to go get it. But I said you have to do a podcast with me first if you want to go get your bike.
Speaker 2:So here we are.
Speaker 1:However, I did it. So today I took you on a few surprises after your bike. So we drove by this place called Grandpa Joe's and it is a candy and soda shop and if you know anything about me, I love a candy store. So we went there and spent about 50 bucks, so I'm excited to eat all my candy then, um, they had. So also at grandpa joe's they have ice cream and I was like looking at the ice cream excuse me just woke up for my nap and I was looking at it and the cones look good.
Speaker 1:They have a bunch of different kinds of like flavored cones, so I was a little enticed by that rainbow so that's why I was like, or we could stop at cherry berry on the way home oh, that's where you got that idea. Yeah because I, because I was like, do I want this ice cream or do I want Cherry Berry? Cherry Berry is the best, so that was delicious, delicious.
Speaker 2:Yeah, shish Not to be confused with XBLidocious.
Speaker 1:I know I'm waking up from my nap.
Speaker 2:I'm really tired Because I took a few days off work, I know, oh, wakey, wakey, wakey, I'm not tired we had a big garage sale this weekend. Yeah, we did and um, it was busy weekend. It was busy. Thursday was the busiest day.
Speaker 1:It's crazy thursday was the busiest day, the first day, and and it kind of slowed down from there. Then friday was less busy than thursday and then sat less busy. However, let me tell you my irritation level of today. Today is Monday. The sale ended on Saturday. I was in the backyard. I come, I'm coming back in to the garage to go into the house. There's a lady and there's still shit in the garage from the garage sale. There's a lady in there quote unquote shopping, and I'm like look at her, like what are you doing in my garage? She's like is the sale still going on? Mind you, we took down all the signs. We did post it on social media so then people see the address, I'm sure, and save it, but it says the dates on there.
Speaker 1:So today there's someone in my garage trying to look at shit and I sent, I'm like sorry, like you got to go. And then when I came home we have a big free pile in the front yard from a lot of stuff that didn't sell, that we just don't want to deal with. That's fine. That's fine, people Come look at it. Still trying to wake up, holy crap.
Speaker 1:This is what happens to me I'm tired and then I'll go to sleep for the night and then I'll be wide awake. So there's some dude at the end of the driveway looking through the free pile and then I'm in the kitchen and then all of a sudden I hear the side door open and usually have that locked. But I just I got home and I'm like who the fuck just came in my house and I look and it's logan.
Speaker 1:I'm like, logan, I'm like you are always welcome. You can always just come on in if the door is open. But if you see me say, hey, kelly, it's logan, so I don't freak out I'm sorry.
Speaker 2:It was an interesting way to start both of our days, considering I just had gotten up too yeah, that's like you just got up when I got off work.
Speaker 1:That's lovely. So garage sale was successful. I think I'm going to do it every year because I but I got rid of so much stuff downstairs. I'm excited this weekend.
Speaker 2:I really want to you made $44 I made like $600 and some bucks.
Speaker 1:It was sweet. This weekend I really want to. I only made 40 bucks. Yeah, you made 44 dollars. I made like 600 and some bucks. It was sweet, but um yeah, so now I'm really excited to. I've got a lot more room in the basement. I sold a ton of Pyrex holy crap. T-bone. That's enough, tyson, what?
Speaker 2:He'll do it again he will All right.
Speaker 1:So garage sale. So okay, some things that are coming up and some things that we did. Okay, yep, one quick pause because I got to tell Mackie a sidebar, so quick turn of events.
Speaker 2:Okay, let me explain yeah, go ahead, you go ahead. So we paused it.
Speaker 1:Because our dog was barking like a madman.
Speaker 2:Yeah, she was barking and it was really irritating and I was going to see what he was barking at and he was scratching at the door. So I looked out the curtains on our window yeah, like the small like at the door and I saw a guy. I didn't know why he was there so I opened the door.
Speaker 1:And usually we don't open our door.
Speaker 2:Yeah, he was there, so I opened the door and usually we don't open our door yeah, and I was like, okay, so open it. He must have been there for a while. It's ever since the dogs were barking. So I open it and there's a cage and it's fucking dixie damn it our little, our bunny, that fucking prison breaker. Freaking little skull. Field that ass Prison breaker. Frickin' little Schofield that ass.
Speaker 1:So Dixie is now in her cage in the house. Now, if you live in Anoka and you've been following the Dixie drama, you know she has never lived in the house. She was an outside barn bunny. I bought her on Marketplace and my goal was I just wanted to have some outdoor bunnies, but she keeps escaping.
Speaker 2:Her name should be Miss Schofield Miss.
Speaker 1:Schofield from Prison Break. Yes, because she doesn't stop escaping. You can call her Michaela, the female version of Michael, michaela Schofield.
Speaker 2:She has her collar off too. She got that thing off too. Yeah, she got that off.
Speaker 1:Holy shit so anyway, dixie has made her way back into our lives. We had kind of just let her named her Community Bunny. However, there was a lot of community drama about her and her freedom, and I think a lot of people know where she lives, and so she's home now. Welcome back home, dixie.
Speaker 2:She probably won't be here for long.
Speaker 1:Don't say that I'm going to buy some more of those.
Speaker 2:She got away within the second day, but the other.
Speaker 1:Okay, so her two sisters are still here.
Speaker 2:They haven't left for a long time. They know it's a good life here.
Speaker 1:We rescued that girl at my work. Her dog got a hold of a baby bunny so I kind of like bottle fed him or her until that bunny got big enough and that bunny still just is in our backyard and is welcome to leave at any time. Yeah, it's great in the backyard, so anywho, that's. That's the, the dixie drama yeah so, mccoy, remember when I was basically living off coffee and stress.
Speaker 2:Oh yeah, like when your eye was twitching, you were, yeah, stuttering all the time. Yeah, I remember that.
Speaker 1:Rude but accurate. Then I found Magic Mind, this little green shot that actually made me feel focused, calm and way less like I was about to spontaneously combust.
Speaker 2:Oh yeah, and now you remember stuff. But it was pretty funny. You're starting all the time.
Speaker 1:It's packed with matcha, adaptogens and nootropics basically brain fuel, without the jitters or crash. And here's the best part Our listeners get 20% off a one-time purchase or up to 48% off a subscription. That stacks with a site discount, so it's under $4 a bottle.
Speaker 2:Under $4? At a gas station, every energy drink's probably $4 or more. That's a steal, if you ask me.
Speaker 1:Get yours at magicmindcom backslash best50. That's magicmindcom backslash best 50. That's magic mindcom backslash best 50. All right, well, honestly, a lot has happened in this podcast recording, but I think we're back locked in, you locked in locked in so we've been up to some pretty fun stuff this summer. What's going on? So a couple weeks back we went to the enoka knife and gun show. Oh yeah, I really like going to that stuff. They usually have some sweet vendors. They have a lot of like old guns, old knives.
Speaker 2:Are you gonna tell them the highlight, the?
Speaker 1:highlight is I got some brass knuckles that are not brass. I would love a pair of brass knuckles for real, but they're hundreds of dollars.
Speaker 2:You should learn to make them. What are those ones you got? Then they're just made out of a different material?
Speaker 1:I don't know, what it is, probably aluminum or steel or something, but brass is like, really heavy and hard. So that's why, if you buy true brass knuckles which is illegal, by the way they're really strong and hard.
Speaker 2:That one was so fuck you fuck you, oh hell yeah, what's the other highlight remember?
Speaker 1:oh yes, I totally forgot that little, that little skit you just did. They also often sell. I was was going to say laser tag. Yeah, tasers and stun guns, and so you were looking at a stun gun type thing.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:And the guy who was selling it was like hey, do you want to know what it feels like? And you're like, sure, and I don't think you thought he was really going to do it, but he really zapped you and that was the highlight of my day.
Speaker 2:I was like, oh, he's going to, so then I really gonna do it, but he really zapped you and that was the highlight of my day. I was like, oh, he's gonna. So then I just stood still. I didn't think he wasn't. Until he did it, I was like, okay, then I'll just do it. You jump, you're like ah it wasn't that bad.
Speaker 1:I thought it wasn't bad so I jumped. It just startled you. Yeah, it was so funny on an exposed court is worse, in my opinion.
Speaker 2:That does that does.
Speaker 1:The only way it would have hurt is if you had it hold on you.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I don't know. I think it's not bad.
Speaker 1:After that we decided it was a beautiful day and we didn't want to just go home, so we ended up driving up to Brainerd and went to the Safari Zoo. We went to Brainerd, which we have been there before. That Safari Zoo is 100. It was like half the day it was there.
Speaker 2:There was more stuff, yeah, I know, but like when we went there, like like the like last time, like not the time before, like you're talking about yeah it was half that stuff wasn't there yeah, it's gotten bigger.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so the day was beautiful, it was a saturday and we were there like we could see everything. The animals were pretty active we got to feed giraffes.
Speaker 2:That's those stupid birds, birds that were.
Speaker 1:Oh my gosh, those macaws. I would never want a macaw, they're so noisy.
Speaker 2:They were so irritating.
Speaker 1:But the sea otters or the river otters were swimming around. They're so cute. They had a little petting zoo. They had about 10 alpacas there and they were like swarming me. I was just in heaven like hugging all of them at the same time. It was so good they had a little tortoise pit. Oh yeah, that you could go in, yeah that was cute, and they had mini cows you could pet llamas, goats which isn't really my thing.
Speaker 2:What's the difference between llamas and alpacas? Do you know?
Speaker 1:Alpacas are cuter. I don't know like the real difference, but they look different. The real difference, but they look different. Alpacas are softer. Okay, they have way bigger eyeballs and, um, they don't spit. Llamas spit, no, okay, and there's probably a whole bunch more differences that I'm not aware of, but usually it's a very aesthetic.
Speaker 2:It's aesthetic for me I want to be an animal whisperer, but I'm, I'm not I know you're not, but like you kind of aren't, you know a lot about animals, so I just assumed you knew about an animal you really like.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I mean, I can probably come up with some differences, but I don't know how technical you want to get about it.
Speaker 2:Any technicality.
Speaker 1:They had two white tigers that were bow-chicka-bow-wow.
Speaker 2:They weren't even. They were just playing like they shouldet.
Speaker 1:There were some monkeys that were doing. What was the other animal that we saw doing? The bow, chicka bow, wow.
Speaker 2:The humping.
Speaker 1:The tigers were humping, for sure.
Speaker 2:Uh-uh. You didn't see that, yeah because you're like alright, they were just on top of it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that's how they hump. Okay, yeah, but I don't think so. He's like let's make a baby mama. No, I don't know what other animals are, All right, I just remember seeing a few.
Speaker 2:Oh yeah, and all the fucking the monkeys had their fucking junk hanging out.
Speaker 1:Their wieners were just hanging out, hanging out. Uh-oh, I was going to say I think I just deleted my whole thing, but I didn't, I found it All, but I didn't, I found it All right. And then after that we went to Zorba's, because I love eating on the water, oh, but that cheese dip was pretty good the cheese dip was mid.
Speaker 2:The chips were mid. The burrito was good. The burrito was pretty good though.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:I think it was pretty good, yeah, so that was.
Speaker 1:Then we drove home and it was yeah we drove home and it was time to go to bed, because it's kind of far away.
Speaker 2:It was like nine or eight. It was like eight when we got home, yeah.
Speaker 1:Super excited. One day I talked to you on the phone or came home and you're like, hey, do you want to go to the Anoka County Fair? And I was like duh, yeah.
Speaker 1:I didn't think I was going to make it there or I didn't think I was going to end up. I thought I was going to maybe end up going by myself, but you took me there. We had a little date night. We did post a picture on social media for you guys to see us, but you were such a gentleman, we got there. It's so expensive, it's expensive. It's $15 a person just to get into the county fair. That's about what it costs to go to the state fair Fucked. So. Date fair Fucked. So it's a little disappointing.
Speaker 1:However, it wasn't busy when we got there. We went early at like a four o'clock on Friday. Well, yeah because you had all the horses. It's like crazy busy, it gets busy. Rush hour too, and a lot of times they put a lot of the animals away and that's my favorite part, that's true. We got to pet all the horses. We saw cows.
Speaker 2:We, we saw pigs, we saw piglets.
Speaker 1:We saw piglets yeah, we saw chickens. We saw bunnies. Are the horses like your favorite animals?
Speaker 2:no, really, my favorite animals are chickens, bunnies and puppies I started before but yes, because you like alpacas never, oh my god, never I do really like horses, like if I had the property.
Speaker 1:Oh my god, and that one chicken that you should get.
Speaker 2:What is it called the Polish? Yes, because they look so. They have that big-ass afro on their neck.
Speaker 1:They're cute, they're cute. Maybe next year. So anyway, we got to pet all the animals there was. What was there at the little petting zoo? There were some cute little things over there. You know, you know the one that's inside where they have, like the exotic animals there's sheeps, little sheeps, were cute they also had an alpaca in there.
Speaker 2:They had an alpaca.
Speaker 1:They have a little. They had a little cow, they had a bunch of like whatever little stuff you could pet, yeah, and then and there's that like what was that little?
Speaker 2:creature on the inside 200 year old turtle outside 140.
Speaker 1:Well, they told us that turtles live, tortoises 140. Yeah, it's like two, three generations.
Speaker 2:But they had a bunch of baby ones, and they were cute. Like tortoises, baby.
Speaker 1:For how big they get and how little they are.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I know that's crazy. They're like this small, they're tiny, they're like that small and then they're like massive, they're massive. That's crazy.
Speaker 1:Because a lot of big animals are born big, big, but those tortoises are, yeah, I mean, they're also born out of an egg, I guess, so that makes sense. But so anyway, that was lovely. We had dinner there together we had some ice cream.
Speaker 2:We went home.
Speaker 1:It was nice, yes, all right, let me tell you what's coming up.
Speaker 2:Chicken butt this weekend is the uh food truck festival in anoka, was it actually? Yeah, top boss is usually there.
Speaker 1:Oh hell, yeah. So we'll go there for lunch and then we'll go there for dinner, because there's no fee to get in and we can just walk right up there.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's just in the town.
Speaker 1:It's also the threshing show this weekend, which I like. It's where they have like all the tractors and stuff. Oh yeah, okay, and that's all I really have. We gotta go school shopping and then the state fair is in, like two weeks, yeah, you gotta look for shoes. You should look online because every time we try to find you shoes yeah, I know I'm gonna look online. We never can find any um any in the store that you like.
Speaker 2:So the other Jordans they have. They're like done, you got it. You grew, yeah, you grew. Yeah, they're done. I haven't worn them in so long and I put them on a long ago. They barely fit. They barely fit. We have to next time we go to a store.
Speaker 1:You got to try on shoes, so we know what size you need.
Speaker 2:I'm a 9.5 or a 10. I can already try on a 9.5, so I don't know if I'm fitting Well those canvas shoes I got you for Kate's wedding are a 9.5.
Speaker 1:wedding are a nine and a half. Yeah, I know do they fit?
Speaker 2:I don't know. Okay, anyway, we should try on shoes.
Speaker 1:So we make sure you get. Well, yeah, I know, other than that, that's all I really have uh on my radar for tv and reading and listening. Let me see.
Speaker 1:So I just finished the hunting wives and it ended in a cliffhanger if you read that book emily, I want to talk to you about this because you said that they did not leave it open for a sequel in the book and they did in the show. So I really want to know how the book ends, because I never read the book. All right now. Of course, I have read many books since we talked last, so let me tell you about them all right. So one of the books I've read since we talked last was you know, know, I love Alan Eskins. He's a really great author. I've read a lot of his books. I've liked all of them. He's from Minnesota. I really like that about him.
Speaker 1:A lot of his books, including this one, take place in Minnesota, so it's fun to listen to places that you know or have been to and can visualize. So anyway, I've read the Quiet Librarian and I was really disappointed in this book. It was a historical fiction book which I didn't I guess I didn't read about before and I just was going to read all his books. So anyway, the Quiet Librarian by Alan Eskins tells the story of Hannah Babich, a librarian in Minnesota who is hiding from a dark past as a Bosnian war assassin named Nura Divjak. When her best friend is murdered, hannah realizes her past is catching up with her, forcing her to confront her lethal skills once more to protect herself and her friend's grandson. The novel alternates between Hannah's present day life and the brutal Bosnian war, where she became a legend. So if you like historical fiction, this could be for you. It wasn't for me, I'm sorry, ellen. I still read your other books. All right if you. I've talked about this author before and I'm going to keep talking about her because she's really great. She's also from Minnesota and I same thing like she. A lot of her stories take place here, so you can really visualize. This is the, what's it called? The background where the setting, the setting, that's what it's called. So anyway, if you love Colleen Hoover and freedom McFadden, you really need to add Lucinda Barry to your list of authors to read. So I read this book.
Speaker 1:It's called Off the Deep End by Lucinda Berry. It's a psychological thriller, which is my favorite genre. It's about Jewel's heart, a therapist turned stay-at-home mom whose life is shattered when her car plunges into a frozen lake. She manages to save one of the two teenage boys that are in the car, but it's the wrong one, leading to her son's death and spiral of grief and guilt. Ten months later, the surviving boy, isaac, disappears and Jules becomes a suspect while harboring her own dangerous secrets. So trigger warning. The story explores themes of trauma, grief, survivor's guilt and the unreliability of memory, with a plot full of twists and turns. I recommend it. I thought it was great. If you're looking for something to read, put Lucinda Berry in your TBR list Locked in.
Speaker 1:All right, another book that I read, which you know it's probably not even mentioning, but I'm just going to mention it so that maybe, and all the books that I like, you might not like, and some of the books that I don't like you might like. So, anyway, I read this book. The author is Sarah Denzel. I really, really like her, but this book didn't hit for me. It's called the Woman in Coach D. It took me a long time to get through it. Anyway, it centers around the main character. Her name is Jenny. She is haunted by the disappearance of her best friend, susie. 16 years prior, they had attempted a risky dare together, involving jumping into a water-filled cave, but only Jenny resurfaced, sustaining a brain injury that affected her memory of the event. Years later, jenny believes she sees Susie on a train, but the woman denies knowing her. This encounter reignites Jenny's determination to uncover the truth about Susie's fate, leading her into a twisted web of deception, hidden agendas and expected identities. Throughout her investigation, jenny grapples with anxiety and the challenges of trusting those around her, including police, family, friends and even members of a cult. The narrative features a surprising plot twist and non-traditional ending. That's a skip for me, but feel free to go ahead and read that one, especially if you like cults. All right, here's a book that I really liked, and I do recommend Another thriller, another author I really love Her name is Minka Kent.
Speaker 1:I think that I've loved all of her books. I don't think that there's been a bad one. So this book by Minka Kent is called After Dark and it is a psychological thriller, once again, my favorite genre of reading. That's mostly what I read and it delves into the complex friendship of Afton and Sidney. The story, told through alternating perspectives and timelines, explores the lasting impact of a violent crime committed 20 years prior, for which Afton was accused of murdering her mother's lover in a blackout rage, murdering her mother's lover in a blackout rage. Now Afton lives as an outcast, battling mental health issues, including hallucinations and blackouts. She receives an unexpected lottery windfall which she plans to help use for her friend Sydney to escape her abusive husband. However, unsettling events begin to unfold, including mysterious calls and a lurking stranger suggesting that Afton's past is catching up to her and threatening her future as well as Sidney's. This novel delves into themes of redemption, friendships and the enduring effects of trauma, questioning the truth behind the accusations against Afton, while the pacing has been described as a slow burn that picks up dramatically, and now I thought this book was not a slow burn. I felt like I wanted to keep reading it the entire time. So anyway, oh yeah, picks up dramatically. It's considered as a fast-paced read, with twists that keep the readers engaged. The unreliable narrator element and unexpected plot twists add to the intrigue. Though some of the readers have found the aspect of the plot predictable or unrealistic, I did not. I didn't see it coming. People say that the ending was reliable or predictable and the deception of mental health issues. However, a lot of people like it. Anyway, I really like it. I recommend that one. It's an older book and it is called After Dark by Minka Kent. Add Minka Kent to your TBR. Read all of her books, they're all good.
Speaker 1:But another Lucinda Berry book. It's called Keep your Friends Close. It is, surprisingly, a psychological thriller revolving around the murder of Kirsten McCann, president of the exclusive West Hollywood Moms Club. The story unfolds after Kirsten is found dead in her own pool and quickly becomes apparent that her death was not an accident. The investigation centers on three mothers from the club Whitney, Brooke and Jade, all of whom harbor dark secrets and potential motives for the murder.
Speaker 1:I haven't finished this one yet, but it's really good. We were listening to it today in the car. Oh, is that what we were listening to? Yeah, so anyway, tbd, but I'm sure it's going to be great, because Lucinda Berry doesn't fail me. She's kind of like the Frida never fails. Neither does Lucinda. So lastly, on my radar, I'm going to start a new show and my favorite song right now I can't believe I'm going to say this out loud, because it's a country song. I know Nasty, but it's on the Pop PlayStation, because it also features a pop star. So morgan malin, morgan malin, morgan wallen, featuring tate mcgray, what I want? That is my jam right now.
Speaker 1:So what's on your radar. Mackie, what have have you been gaming, watching, reading, listening to what you got?
