Hey guys, Welcome back to Honor Best Behavior. You're here with Mac and Kelly.
Speaker 2:So great, so great. Welcome to 2025.
Speaker 1:Six. But okay, I'm kidding, I'm like wait a second.
Speaker 2:How did I miss a whole year? It's possible.
Speaker 1:I mean, I don't really know, it's kind of hard to miss 365 days, 65 days.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I'm glad that you know how many days are in one year.
Speaker 1:Of course I know that.
Speaker 2:What.
Speaker 1:Of course I know that.
Speaker 2:Oh, I thought you said I have a question about that. No, all right. So you're listening to Honor Bus Behavior. We're so glad that you're here. We're so glad to share a new year for you. New years are exciting for a lot of people, including myself. I like a new start and a new time to focus on goals and resolutions and a new outlook, and hopefully it lasts all year long and we can grow and better ourselves and then grow and grow and grow every year. So let's talk about New Year's resolutions. Let's open it up with that. Do you have a New Year's resolution, mccoy?
Speaker 1:What is that? A goal?
Speaker 2:You don't know what a New Year's resolution is. It's a goal, though, right. It's like a goal that you set for yourself for the year. I was just making sure, yeah.
Speaker 1:Getting my license.
Speaker 2:All right, you graduated from behind the wheel. Yeah, finally, you're all done with that. How many hours of driving do you have logged? I don't know, like 16 ish, 17 ish how many hours logged do you need to take the test? I I don't really the the paper that I have says it oh okay, you don't know, off the top of your head it's like 50.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you're not even halfway there we got to get. The problem is here I my drive to work is one point two miles, so I don't really go anywhere. If we go anywhere on the weekends, like, everything that we need to go to is super close, yeah, so we just don't really drive a lot. We should.
Speaker 1:And we don't really do anything that much there weekend, so there's like one day what we'll? Do a lot yeah, and it's like either sunday or saturday, yeah one or the other and and then that's like the rest is just like chill out, and then one of those days is like chores.
Speaker 2:Like god, you just do chores, so like I don't know yeah, there's just not enough time I know but one day, one day we should, you know maybe I'll have to find something on Facebook Marketplace. I want to buy and make you drive me to get it, Because that's usually a little farther away.
Speaker 1:Do you hear?
Speaker 2:that? Yeah, that's your dry lip up on the microphone.
Speaker 1:What does it sound like, Mom? I can't hear you?
Speaker 2:No, because I don't have dry lips like you.
Speaker 1:So what do you hear it?
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's like it's not that dramatic.
Speaker 1:But don't you have lipstick on, or what do you?
Speaker 2:call it Chapstick, I don't anymore. It all rubbed off.
Speaker 1:I feel like I need.
Speaker 2:They look shiny kissable.
Speaker 1:I mean not by you, but by Eminem. Do they look rough and nasty?
Speaker 2:Rust Rough you. But what do mine looks like by m&m? Do they look rough and nasty? Rust rough and bumpy? I know, but I said rust when I was trying to say rough snapchat all right new year's resolution, so my new, do you want to? Oh, mom, what? What is your new year's resolution? Do you have one, do you? Oh, I'm so glad that you asked I did ask you right. That should also be a resolution, for you is to ask other people. I do.
Speaker 1:I'm locked.
Speaker 2:All right, my New Year's resolution is to slow down. Especially when I talk on this podcast, I feel like I have so many thoughts in my brain and then I'm trying to talk really fast because I'm trying to get them all out, but then I'm thinking of other things and then this is probably where you get your ADHD, because I'm like bing, bang, bong and I'm all over the place and then I forget about what I was actually trying to say in the first place. So I'm trying to slow it down and just focus a lot more on the podcast content, just writing my thoughts out, versus thinking like I can wing it, because I can wing it, but then it becomes more like on our best behavior, shit show version.
Speaker 1:Oh, my God.
Speaker 2:Maybe it's like that anyway, but we hope you like it. All right, my other, your other, what my other? I had some other resolutions that I wanted, so talking slow on this podcast and slowing down, oh, slowing down in life like I'm really loving my forehand homestead that I have going on right now that's what I'm going to call my egg.
Speaker 1:Stand the forehand homestead oh fore, oh 4Hen, yeah, 4hen.
Speaker 2:What did you think? I said 4Hen, oh, 4hen, homestead. And so I've really been enjoying my backyard, even though it's fucking cold. It's not that cold, but guess what I ordered? It comes on Tuesday.
Speaker 1:What is that I?
Speaker 2:ordered one of those bubble globes.
Speaker 1:What is a bubble globe? It's like a tent, but it's a bubble, it's a dome.
Speaker 2:It's a see-through bubble, it's a dome, and you can keep it warm and you can put like furniture and blankets in there I'm going to put like a little fireplace heater, so it's literally a shield dome.
Speaker 1:Yeah, see how you're Gibraltar from Apex. Yeah.
Speaker 2:So you can just be all like my mom Up there she is in her four-hand homestead in her snow globe, I'm going to say, oh her shield dome. That's kind of cool, it's not.
Speaker 1:It's a shield dome.
Speaker 2:It's either called an igloo or a bubble tent. Can I call it a shield dome, I mean, I guess?
Speaker 1:I didn't know that was Shield dome, I guess that's on the agenda for learning new things shield dome. So a shield dome. I know I need to work on my stutter.
Speaker 2:No, I do that all the time because once again it's my brain going. All these neurons are just firing too fast. So what is a shield dome? Is that from your game? Is that like some kind of barrier of protection?
Speaker 1:no, it's from my game. Yeah, what game. Apex.
Speaker 2:Oh, you haven't played that in a minute.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I haven't Actually it hasn't been a minute. It's probably been like a couple weeks.
Speaker 2:So tell me when you would use a shield dome.
Speaker 1:It's just like something that you throw down and you're safe inside of it. I don't think that this is that protective. I mean, if I threw something at it, would it hit?
Speaker 2:you. It depends on how heavy it is or how like. If you shot at me, it would definitely hit me so like in your game, I'm sure it's a lot of shooting.
Speaker 1:It's a bullet that would definitely not protect nerf gun yes, that would, I would be probably safe from your Nerf gun, so it protects you. So yes.
Speaker 2:I'm trying to slow down on the podcast and just slow down in life and enjoy the time that I have and the way I want to, and also my mental health and well-being. I'm continuing to work on that. I just really want to be a kinder, more approachable person, and I hate being judged and I hate judging others, and so I'm really trying hard to not be judgy. But you know what I'm going to say it we're all judgy, everyone's judgy, but it's really hard to not be judgy. Are you judgy? Yes, yes, that's what I'm saying. Like I don't want to be judgy, but we all make assumptions or impressions about others and I'm just trying to be like it's okay, like that's fine, as long as you're a nice person, I'm good with you. I'm working on it. It doesn't come easy. So, yes, and so again, I'm working on my mental health, I'm working on my well-being. I haven't had alcohol in four months, trying to go one whole year, just because because I've already gone this long.
Speaker 2:And it's not that I feel like I shouldn't have alcohol, but I feel like when I do have alcohol I don't enjoy it, like it makes me feel icky, it gives me a headache, it makes me feel tired, it makes me feel crappy the next day, it's expensive.
Speaker 2:So, anyway, bye-bye. And I'm not saying I'm not ever going to drink again, but I am really trying to go one year without it. And and I'm not saying I'm not ever going to drink again, but I am really trying to go one year without it. And I wanted to let you know, since I started my weight loss journey in June of 2023, I have lost 55 pounds. So what do you weigh right now? 1.23. Ooh, you're getting close and I can't believe. I just announced my weight on this podcast.
Speaker 1:We have a scale in the bathroom. Last time I weighed myself I was around like 120-something. I can't believe. I just announced my weight on this podcast. I wonder how much I weigh. We have a scale in the bathroom. Last time I weighed myself, I was around like 120-something. I don't remember how long ago. How long ago has it been?
Speaker 2:Probably like three months since I last weighed myself, so it's probably going up. One thing I wanted to—see I'm already having to like backpedal. One thing I also wanted to talk about is with you having your permit. I have been having the pleasure of being chauffeured around by you what was chauffeured around what? Yeah, you drive me around, so I'm like hey, so my life has gotten really easy because between order pickup and you driving you have to do nothing.
Speaker 2:I have to do nothing but ride along and and just be like oh, turn here up, turn here up, watch out up, you're good to go, yep, yep. You did great Blah, blah, blah, but you're a really good driver.
Speaker 1:Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Hey, I didn't stutter.
Speaker 2:I just blah, blah, blah.
Speaker 1:What are you doing, bro? I'm just trying to think about what I want to do. You got stuck on a thought.
Speaker 2:No, I'm not stuck. I was trying to. I mean, I have a lot of thoughts that I want to talk about, but I was giving you a moment to see if there was anything that you wanted to chirp in on.
Speaker 1:Chirp, chirp, chirp, chirp chirp Okay.
Speaker 2:Well speaking of well-being, mental health. I also want to talk about mental wealth. So yeah, mine's really good totally Mac let's it is.
Speaker 2:Let's talk about one of our favorite daily rituals Magic Mind. Oh yeah, so Magic Mind, it's a little green shot packed with ingredients that actually work. It's been a total game changer for both Mac and me, whether it's avoiding that dreaded mid-afternoon slump or just keeping our focus sharp. Magic Mind delivers. It's filled with real powerful ingredients like lion's mane, which is premium, and other amazing mushrooms. All the mushrooms are so good for brain power. It has matcha in it and B vitamins and L-theanine, which is really good for ADHD. What's L-theanine? It's a vitamin or a supplement or something like that. It has ashwagandha in it, which is great for reducing stress, and also turmeric, which is the magical. I don't know if it's an herb or it's a spice, but it's like you know. They say it prevents cancer. It does all these really great things for you. So it has all of that magic in it and it's natural and it's packed with benefits. No midday crashes here that is my.
Speaker 1:You're taking that almost every day. What do you mean?
Speaker 2:no, but I mean at work, like when I'm at work, I do, and I do, midday is like five o'clock midday? No, for me, midday is like one, two o'clock. What do you mean? That's like halfway through the day, like your school day. It's like halfway through your school day. I'm talking halfway through my work day so usually what I'm saying is I have my coffee in the morning, Then I have lunch and then I just kind of go into like a.
Speaker 2:I really wish I could just lay down and take a nap, but with Magic Mind, I don't have that. I don't have that slump.
Speaker 1:I'm just Don't worry. Midday through is gym, so don't worry. Midday through is gym, so don't worry, my energy goes up. You already know.
Speaker 2:You probably don't notice, because you've been shooting Magic Mind and so you just don't get the slump.
Speaker 1:No, I just usually don't get a slump, unless I have really boring classes and I'm not doing much.
Speaker 2:So just steady energy and focus all day long. Seriously, give Magic Mind a try. We think you'll love it as much as we do, and I'm really excited we got this. Today they came out with a sleep elixir the slump elixir, sure and so tonight we're gonna take that and see how much it helps us sleep, because I don't know about you, mackie, what are you looking?
Speaker 2:for, but I am not the best sleeper and I found it what I wanted you to know about the Magic Mind Sleep Elixir is there is no melatonin in it, which I'm excited for. It's not addictive and then the next day you don't have grogginess and it just supports you in that relaxive state of mind. The next day when you still feel tired, like you're not ready to wake up.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I hate that.
Speaker 2:That's you every morning.
Speaker 1:That's one of the things I'm like. Oh my God, I don't want to get up.
Speaker 2:And it has a lot of things that also are appealing to me. It has ashwagandha again, passionflower, lavender, lemon balm, chamomile, ooh, magnesium, which is magical if you have restless legs or headaches. I love that stuff. All right, bundle with our link, which we're going to put in the show notes, which is magicmindcom backslash Kelly SZ, jan. So that's going to be K-E-L-L-I-S-Z-J-A-N and we'll put that in the show notes for you. Mccoy, what, what else do you got? Are you going to talk for a little bit or do you want me to? I have something I'm really proud of you for. What's really?
Speaker 1:proud of me for.
Speaker 2:You made the honor roll.
Speaker 1:No, I didn't.
Speaker 2:Drum roll? Yes, you did. I don't know how I did that. Did they tell you that you made the honor roll? Because I got a weird email one day and I was like, oh, what's this like? Doesn't look good.
Speaker 1:and I was like mccoy, is on the honor roll. Mainstream classes gpa of 3.5 or higher.
Speaker 2:It's not a 1.8. You should really be proud of yourself. You've come such a long way. Okay, fine, you don't want to talk?
Speaker 1:about it? Oh, no, I have come a long way.
Speaker 2:Don't be modest. What do you mean modest? Modest means like you're shy about it.
Speaker 1:I'm not shy about it.
Speaker 2:Okay, well, be loud and proud. No, okay, fine.
Speaker 1:I know he's going to be loud and proud.
Speaker 2:Would you rather not be on the honor roll? I mean, I would rather but you registered for your classes For next year, which we're going to. Would you rather not be on the honor roll? I mean, I would rather, but yeah, you registered for your classes for next year, which we're going to throw in the towel and sign you up for a step.
Speaker 1:What do you mean? Throw in the towel?
Speaker 2:Like we're going to go to your school and say we want you to do this step program where you can go get college credits at the tech school.
Speaker 1:Yep For two hours for the free yeah, right that's kind of fun. You go there for two hours, yeah don't you want to do that?
Speaker 2:yeah, and then you could be done with college faster, making money I guess yeah it probably saved me a little bit of time.
Speaker 1:Plus, if I do it, the next three years wait why are you looking? Two, you can only do for two.
Speaker 2:Well, you're going to be in 11th grade next year.
Speaker 1:This is for next year.
Speaker 2:I was like, that's why I was thinking I was looking at you because I was like three years.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I guess two years Unless you want to be a super senior. No.
Speaker 2:All right, and something I wanted to start for 2025 is I want you to tell me and I'm going to tell you also something new that you learned this week infinity and beyond. Buzz Lightyear toy story. Heck, yeah, I know how to fly now what do they say to infinity and beyond?
Speaker 1:sorry. What am I doing? Something new that you learned this week? Tell me something new and beyond, sorry, what?
Speaker 2:am I doing Something new that you learned this week? Tell me something new that you learned this week.
Speaker 1:How do you eat an apple? I'm kidding.
Speaker 2:Can you eat an apple with those braces?
Speaker 1:Yeah, it probably just sucks.
Speaker 2:Well, you could cut it up, I guess.
Speaker 1:Really, I guess I could.
Speaker 2:You're not much of an apple eater.
Speaker 1:Not really. I'm not really a fruit eater in general. No yeah, unless they're there and I'm hungry, then I'll eat one, so tell me something new that you learned. Okay, okay, okay, Bro, it's so boring though.
Speaker 2:It's fine, it's so boring it's fine. So as so boring, it's fine. So as this next week goes on, you need to be thinking. I want you to be thinking about my microphone is cutting out Mac. I want you to be thinking about. You know, just put that in the front of your brain like, oh, I didn't know that. I'm going to put it in my brain for the podcast.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, your brain like oh, I didn't know that. I'm gonna put it in my brain for the podcast, oh yeah. So even if it's boring, tell us what you learned. This. All right, I'm gonna say it's really freaking boring and it's not gonna benefit me in any way, but it could benefit someone listening what it could benefit someone listening I mean, my instructions are pretty buns all right, well, let's okay.
Speaker 2:What did you learn?
Speaker 1:The Prothagorean Theorem I don't know how to say it right. Okay, what is that? It's like the triangle with the X's, and like A squared plus B squared equals C squared.
Speaker 2:Okay, so it's like geometry. Yes, okay, it's geometry. It's geometry, and and you know how to do it, yep, you could teach somebody how to do it, yep, good for you. I love that for you. How do you love that for me? I don't know. Just because I'm really happy that you thought of something, that you learned that was new, because usually you're like I don't know, I do know Nothing happened, I don't know, yeah, nothing ever happens.
Speaker 1:I'm telling you.
Speaker 2:Oh, I know something that happened that. I didn't write in my show notes that I wanted you to talk about. You mentioned to me the other day, so casually, how people smoke weed on the bus. What do you mean? You said something about. You can smell weed on the bus because people smoke weed on the bus.
Speaker 1:Okay, so what about it?
Speaker 2:You just didn't even seem like it was a big deal, and I think that's a really big deal.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it happens every day.
Speaker 2:So are people smoking it?
Speaker 1:Do you see them smoking it on the bus? It's like the weed e-cig.
Speaker 2:Oh, the vape.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that's what it is.
Speaker 2:Does the bus driver ever say anything? They don't care. They say I can smell the weed, put it away, yeah no one gives a fuck is there, do you know? I'm not asking you to rat, but do you know who does it?
Speaker 1:I don't know if you have some of the people that do do it, but like I don't know half their names do?
Speaker 2:are they younger than you or older than you? Like probably my age okay, you don't know for sure, not for sure. No, oh, I just wanted. This is also. This. Is my brain going off into different things just made me think of this okay which won't make any sense to you, but I'll tell you why after I saw on facebook that alex is oh, you didn't come with us at night.
Speaker 2:He's doing better, he's in rehab and he's working on some new songs the guy from when you danced at the band shell and I saw a crystal post on there that she's excited to be dancing again and I thought so is McCoy, so I can get $50?. I mean, I would ask for $100 and just really boost her. Yeah, so anyway, I just want to let you be prepared to dance again.
Speaker 1:I'm ready, I'm locked in, I'm taking the free money.
Speaker 2:Do you want to know what I learned?
Speaker 1:new this week.
Speaker 2:It's going to be really boring for you, Okay.
Speaker 1:I'm ready.
Speaker 2:But all right. Once you turn 45, you're supposed to get a colonoscopy every year to 10 years, depending on your results. If everything's normal, it's every 10 years. Colonoscopy people. If you're 45 or older, you need a colonoscopy every 10 years. A lot of people don't want to do a colonoscopy, so they opt for a alternative test called Cologuard. Cologuard is a test where you poop at home. You put your poop on this card or in this thing I've never done it myself and then you mail your poop in to this company and then they let you know if there's any concern oh yeah, or colon cancer in your body or no, just in your butt just in your colon, yeah,
Speaker 2:oh and so, anyway, today, I, today, I finally said how often do you have to do coligard? Because I didn't know if it was every. I knew it wasn't every 10 years. I thought it was every year, but wendy told me it's every three years if it's normal. And if it's not normal, then you have to do the colonoscopy anyway. So, anyway, that's what I learned, super exciting. Right Today at work I had a patient who was having some odor. I'm going to make this vague, but I feel like it's entertaining, but I don't want to say too much. She brought in a pair of her underwear so that we could see what they smelled like. So we knew what the odor was like, that she was experiencing. And what was that? Psa, do not bring your underwear to your appointment.
Speaker 1:What did PSA stand for?
Speaker 2:Public Service Announcement.
Speaker 1:Why did she do that? Leave your undies at home. Did she just bring it? So she was like Leave your undies at home. They smell really bad.
Speaker 2:I think there's. You know we're working on our mental health. She probably needs to also.
Speaker 1:But I'm not judging.
Speaker 2:No, she was experiencing an odor that she didn't think was right.
Speaker 1:Okay, so she, oh, my God.
Speaker 2:That kind of odor Okay.
Speaker 1:Oh, my God Okay.
Speaker 2:All right, I want to talk about Christmas, because we haven't done a podcast since christmas. Mccoy, what did santa bring you for christmas? A million dollars, chat. Damn, why don't you be sharing that with me?
Speaker 1:I'm kidding, I wish dude, I wish I wish too.
Speaker 2:How much would you give me of that million? Half half, yeah, man you do love me of course what okay, so tell me what you really got. What did santa bring you a?
Speaker 1:pc a monitor, a keyboard and mouse. And what else did I get? That was a good like a battery pack thing for like xbox controllers. What else did I get? Trying, trying to think Underwear, I think I got two things of socks. What else did I get?
Speaker 2:Hey, don't bring your underwear to your doctor's appointment, oh, my god, I know how did I do that. It's so weird, it was a first, okay, I don't remember Clothes. Those new socks yeah, I know I like them. Do you like them? Yeah, yeah, I know I like them.
Speaker 1:Do you like?
Speaker 2:them, yeah, gift cards.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, I got a bunch of food gift cards. I already spent one of them. Two of them actually, they're gone. I spent them in one day.
Speaker 2:You realize, money doesn't go very far, does it?
Speaker 1:I mean, when you have a job, it kind of does.
Speaker 2:And when you don't have to pay rent, I mean shit, that's fine.
Speaker 1:It probably has like three bucks on it, but I don't know what happened to it.
Speaker 2:Well, hey, you can use it towards, like, if something costs $10, but you still have $3 left on your gift card. I don't know what happened to it, though you can, it's probably gone. That's $3. You can still use it you just have to pay the rest For the free. Well, it's not for free.
Speaker 1:It is for the free. So 1 to 10, how great was your Christmas? It was probably a 10, yeah.
Speaker 2:Not the best Christmas ever.
Speaker 1:It was probably a 10.
Speaker 2:It was probably one of the best, though In the top three. Tell me in your mind what the best Christmas was.
Speaker 1:Probably when I got the, I don't know, that's so difficult.
Speaker 2:Like when do you remember feeling like the happiest on Christmas?
Speaker 1:When I got the freaking wall of Nerf guns.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that was a good one. That was a good one. Do you actually remember that? Yes, yeah, I have a picture of that on Instagram somewhere they're just stacked to the ceiling. Yeah, I know. Yeah, on Instagram, somewhere they're just stacked to the ceiling. Yeah, I know. All right, you know, I always like to talk about what you're watching or what you're reading, and I know you binge Squid Games too, so I want to hear about it.
Speaker 1:What do you mean? You want to hear about it.
Speaker 2:I mean I want you to tell everyone did you like it? Should they watch it? Is it worth?
Speaker 1:it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it is worth it, no spoilers you stayed up until midnight binging it. Yeah, it's worth a watch. Yeah, what do you like so much about Squid Game the show.
Speaker 1:I don't know, I don't know, I don't know what I like about it. I just like it, yeah.
Speaker 2:I just feel like you don't get into that many TV shows, so I'm just interested, like what?
Speaker 1:Cause I already watched the first season. I just got to watch the second one.
Speaker 2:You're just committed.
Speaker 1:Not bad of a show, whatever you want to call it.
Speaker 2:There was a scene in there where they were playing like Russian roulette with a gun and it just really freaked me out, because this is why I know that you're not going to do that to yourself. I know you're not, I know you're not dumb and I know that you know that's wrong, but it worries me that people watch that and get ideas that they can do that. And let me tell you, if you actually played Russian roulette like that, the odds of it being the last bullet are very slim to none. Like it's likely to be the first or second one.
Speaker 1:What do you mean?
Speaker 2:That blows your brains out, so it's not a funny game. I think kids think like oh, I could do that and it's probably not going to hit me until the ninth round.
Speaker 1:It just depends on what the ball does now, so anyway promise me that you will never do something like that.
Speaker 2:Because, as a mom, it terrifies me. I just don't want anything bad happening to kids.
Speaker 2:No, I don't do that but then I try to remember the things that I watched and listened to when I was 15. And I absolutely knew that that was not okay or right or whatever, but I still liked it and thought it was cool, but I knew it wasn't reality. Your birthday is coming up. You're going to be 16. You're just trying to skip a whole year of your life. You're trying to skip 25. You're trying to skip 16. So what do you want for your birthday? And let me tell you what's coming the week before your birthday presents when you get to pick a number and then you get a gift one week up to your birthday. But what I need to know is what you want for your birthday. Give me one idea. It doesn't have to be a commitment and it doesn't have to be the only thing. Okay, ready.
Speaker 1:Yes, a mouse pad and speakers for my pc, okay, but I want a certain mouse pad.
Speaker 2:well, yeah, I want you to, you know so you go search it up and send it to me, so that I know you might do it like soon yeah, I know, that's why I need you to send it like soon.
Speaker 1:Soon, I don't know, I don't Well your birthday is still in 10 days. Is it actually in 10 days?
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Holy shit, it's already January.
Speaker 2:Yeah, bro, where have you been? It's already January to January 8th.
Speaker 1:Mom, oh why.
Speaker 2:You're so nasty, All right. Is there anything else that you have to add? Otherwise, I'm going to talk for a long time about this really great book that I read.
Speaker 1:I'm ready, okay.
Speaker 2:And then, after I tell you about my book I know you have a. Would you rather Ignore? We're doing a podcast right now, okay, and I have a funny joke for you.
Speaker 1:Okay.
Speaker 2:And it's funny, isn't it?
Speaker 1:My joke.
Speaker 2:Mm for you. And it's funny, isn't it? My joke, okay. So I recently read a book called this goes on with the whole mental health thing and bettering yourself, and it is called Get Control of your Life by Mel Robbins. It focuses on how anxiety is triggered so much by the lack of control that you might have in situations. This book really hit home for me because as I reflected on my own experiences, I could see how much control, or trying to have control, has shaped me over the years. It made me realize how intertwined that has been with the other emotions, like jealousy, competitiveness, especially in growing up that I had. Growing up I feel like I was often trying to prove myself, striving to be the favorite grandchild, the favorite child, the favorite niece, the favorite student, the favorite coworker, the favorite employee. I wanted to fit in, but I also really wanted to stand out and be the best and that made me jealous, mean and at times, honestly not always the person that I wanted to be.
Speaker 2:Now, as I've gotten older and gone through several bouts of therapy and medications, which has helped me feel more stable and given me the tools I need to better navigate my life and situations, I look back and I've recognized those behaviors and where they came from and I don't want to be that person. I've worked really hard to become kinder and, oh my goodness, I have to get my breath To just be more kind, more kinder, more kind. I have to get my breath to just be more kind, more kinder, more kind and self-aware. So what this book really solidified for me is how much of that behavior was rooted in my need for control control over how people saw me, control over the relationships that I've had and maybe even control over my family dynamics.
Speaker 2:I grew up thinking that I had a normal childhood, but throughout my adult life I have realized how dysfunctional it was. I know my mom was doing the best she could with how she was raised and what she thought was okay and what was right, and people judging her on how she was parenting. I do have some resentment on a lot of my childhood. My mom didn't let me join any sports. She laughed at my dreams of being a rock star, which I know are far-fetched, but instead of laughing at me like let me do voice lessons or let me learn how to play the piano, the piano, the piano. She didn't let me have much of a social life. She would ground me just so that I would be at home with her. I had to be, like my parents, designated driver because I'm glad that they didn't drive drunk but I just felt kind of like a prisoner, like I was just there for them.
Speaker 2:Anyway, I'm not saying it's right or it's wrong, I'm just saying I have resentment about it. Looking back on my life, and you know, then my parents moved far away from me when I was young and I feel like that kind of. I felt like I had two options I could stay home, where I already had a job and bills to pay, and a boyfriend, and I was going to school at the time and I felt like I couldn't just leave all that behind and I also just felt like I couldn't just up and leave. But in the same breath I felt like then I was kind of tied to that boyfriend and that life. And you know, when you're young, you think you're old and you have this biological clock ticking and I'm not saying that that's my parents' fault, but I'm just saying that that's what my mindset was.
Speaker 2:And you know, then my mom died when she was super young and I have resentment about that, not that it's her fault, not that it's. Maybe she could have done some things different. I still love her and I have accepted all of these things, but it's just like if I could have had things be different, that's some of the things I would have chose and I try to be the best for you, mccoy, but I'm sure one day you will let me know what I could have done better and what I did that you didn't like. You will let me know what I could have done better and what I did that you didn't like. But I want you to also know that I hope we have the relationship where you can tell me that now, even though I know you think I'm scary, I'm telling you I'm trying to be nice. So, anyway, I wanted to share this book with you and the things that it made me think and feel. I know I'm not alone in this struggle, whether it's anxiety, jealousy or feeling like you have to prove yourself. I think we all face moments when we are not our best selves, but recognizing it and working through it and choosing to grow is what really matters. So if any of this resonates to you, I'd love to hear your thoughts or experiences. Feel free to email us. Thank you for letting me share this part of my journey with you. It's not always easy to talk about these things, but I think it's important to put it out there and be transparent. I definitely recommend.
Speaker 2:The name of the book again is Get Control of your Life by Mel Robbins. Tackles things you know, just difficulties with anxiety and self-worth and control, and on and on and on. So if you just want to like listen to a little blip of it, it's good. What I like about the book is it's actually real life people that are struggling with their life in one way or another, and then she kind of works them through it and they kind of see what they are doing or why they're feeling the way they're feeling. So it just felt really real, versus like a self-help book. So it just really might open your eyes to something you didn't realize about yourself, like it did for me. So that's my recommendation. All right, thanks. Do you have anything to add? Do you want to tell me?
Speaker 1:the things that I do that you wish.
Speaker 2:Recommendation alright, thanks. Do you have anything to add? Do you want to tell me the things that I do that you wish I didn't do?
Speaker 1:there's nothing I wish I didn't do how can I make your childhood better? I don't know, it's fine.
Speaker 2:I made you, it's not yet some of the craziest things in my childhood happened to me in high school. Hey, you got a bat in the cave just so you know yes, did you get it? No, I don't know where it is well here.
Speaker 1:I found it yep, told you.
Speaker 2:Did you think I was lying? No, I would never. Okay, you would all right. So I'm ready for you to tell me your. Would you Alright? So I'm ready for you to tell me your would you rather.
Speaker 1:And then I have a joke.
Speaker 2:And then I have some closing words.
Speaker 1:Did you hear my swallow, my eyes?
Speaker 2:I did I did, sure did you heard that, oh yeah everyone did, everyone heard you.
Speaker 1:If you want to listen to this episode.
Speaker 2:You can hear it too. Alright, ready, I'm ready.
Speaker 1:I don't know if we've done this, but Would you rather hop everywhere you go or skip everywhere you go?
Speaker 2:Skip. I feel like skipping is easier than hopping, it's way easier. At first I wanted to say hopping, because that's like a bunny, but skipping is way easier. I'm picking, skipping too, skipping too All right, are you ready for the funniest joke you've heard all day?
Speaker 1:Yep, let's hear it, man, all right it all day.
Speaker 2:Yep let's hear it, man. All right, if you have your kids in the car probably want to shut the radio off, right?
Speaker 1:now what?
Speaker 2:because it's an inappropriate joke. I'm gonna tell okay ready a blind girl. All right, this is not like a question and answer, it's like a statement joke, okay okay a blind girl said I have a big dick.
Speaker 2:Turns out she was just pulling my leg, get it. She couldn't see, so she thought it was his dick, but it was his leg, all right. So just a quick wrap up.
